Passion, courage, danger, hatred, anger, and heat. All words that could come to mind when thinking of the color red, and all intesnse feelings (Red, 2013). Long (2011) explains that reds and yellow-reds can have stronger chromas than blues, greens and blue-greens because vision processes the sensations of these groups of colors differently. Because chroma is the attention-getting dimension of color, it may explain why vivid reds, and to a slightly lesser extent, oranges and yellows, are so highly visible. Red rivets the attention”(p. 29). “To some people red seems aggressive; to others it seems pleasantly exciting. Because blood is red and the body flushes when excited, there are many associations with red relate to love, passion, anger, sin, danger and emergency. However, in China red symbolizes good luck, honor and happiness, and in Japan red guards against illness and demons. Also in China and India, red signifies communism, yet in the United States, red is associated with the Republican Party’s views about democracy. In parts of India red wedding dresses are the custom, whereas in some parts of Africa red is associated with death and mourning” (Long, 2011, p. 29).
