Blue-
“Blue is the most popular color in the world, and it is a color that carries important sacred and secular meanings in many cultures. A likely reason for blue’s popularity is the simple fact that it is ever present in our visual world as sky (air), oceans, and lakes (water), elements necessary for life itself(Long, 2011, p.33) In the West the color blue is often associated with the male gender and blue clothing and other gifts will be bought for parents expecting a little boy. Tranquility and optimism, yet also sadness and depression are adjectives often used to describe the color(Color Meaning, n.d.). In Hinduism two of the most important gods, Vishnu and Shiva, are depicted with blue skin. In Judaism the color holds special historical meaning and symbolizes God’s glory. The flags of several countries include a blue element and major political movements have used it. It often signifies freedom, especially in France, and in the United States it is associated with the Democratic Party. In Britain and Canada it is the color of the Conservative Party(Long, 2011, p.33). |
